Always keep some pasta sauce in your pantry

Remember Monday's inaugural bacon sandwiches? We bought a whole packet of bacon just because of the sandwiches (ok, so there were only 8 rashers in it - it's a small pack) and completely forgot about the rest sitting in the fridge.

And when it came to the evening's bento planning/request time, there was nothing else I could use other than the bacon. So after a few minutes of research on the internet, I decided on a simple bacon pasta dish with minimal prep and cooking.

Like I said, I ran out of the usual staples so there wasn't even any veg. Going marketing tomorrow...

We love Onigiris!

Hands down, my kids' favourite bento food. They NEVER refuse when I offer this. Today, it's paired with some planned-over teriyaki chicken and fruits. Satisfying...

Bacon Sandwich Bento

I do believe this is a first for me. Upon request from Roast Meat, I simply toasted two slices of bacon in the toaster till desired doneness and slipped them between slices of multi-grain bread. I was too lazy to even cut up the small apple into convenient slices for him.

My excuse is - toothache. I didn't sleep the whole night and quickly telephoned for an appointment with my dentist. I ended up with surgery, but that story does not belong on a bento blog.

CNY break coming up!

We certainly are looking forward to the lovely four and a half day weekend which begins on Wed afternoon.

One and only bento for this week - bak kwa sandwiches, gold coins (tamagoyaki) and apples.

Wishing all bento'ers a blissful and healthy Year of the Goat!

A small snack box of CNY goodies for his 10 min break in class. Counts as healthy?

Return of the Moulded Mini Buns

In my attempt to come up with variety, I occasionally dig back through past posts to see what else I can cook up. Here's an old favourite of mine.

The How-To for making these cute buns is here.

Merry Monday Pasta Bento

Topped with green pepper and onion omelette and served with apple chunks.

I just hope it's not stone cold by recess time since this box does not have very good thermal properties.

Stinky Bento

Aka Natto Don. Roast Meat's eyes lit up when he saw me preparing this bento last night. This boy will eat Natto with anything, anytime.

Served with cucumber ribbons and mandarin orange wedges. Oh, and a snack box of homemade kueh lapis legit.

Teriyaki Chicken has appeared!

A perennial favourite, my kids love it for its combination of sweet and salty flavours, topped with the peakiness of mirin. This time, I cooked the chicken especially for their bentos the night before. On the side are cherry tomatoes and a little clingwrapped bag of kimchi.

Get the recipe for Teriyaki Chicken here.

I baked them this time, skin side up, on the second highest shelf position at 200C for about 13min, till the skins were a beautiful caramelised brown.
